“Prezi”

Prezi is presentation software much different than PowerPoint. Unlike PowerPoint, which offers a slide-by-slide presentation, Prezi is more of a visual and interactive mind map, in which you can interact with different elements on a virtual canvas. By using Prezi, you can convert your PowerPoint presentation slides into a dynamic user experience, or you can create a brand new Prezi. Prezi is a site that can be used anywhere you have internet connection. Prezi is 3-D presentations that can be collaborated with others, and presented in real time. The site allows you to embed your presentation anywhere on the web, and allows you to insert Google images, and YouTube videos directly into your presentations. Lastly, you can access millions of presentations to inspire ideas, and can automatically sync the presentations with your iPad or iPhone.

         Prezi can be used to help businesses create more effective meeting and more engaging presentations. The site can help businesses stand out from competition, and gage their audience. Prezi’s 3-D presentation tools allow businesses to showcase their ideas in a more intriguing way. It allows them to effectively communicate with their target market, and display their future ideas, and gain feedback. Businesses can also use Prezi to display videos, and monitor customer reaction.

Socially, Prezi can be used as an easy tool for collaborations. Prezi makes your ideas easy to share with clients, colleagues, class mates, or people across the globe. The site allows you to co-edit in real time with anyone throughout the world. Being so easy to access, Prezi can be quickly downloaded on an iPhone or iPad, and can be used anywhere on the go.

Although there are not many entertainment, recreational, or news uses for Prezi, it can be used for educational purposes. Prezi creates a more active learning experience, and can make presentations more understandable, and memorable. Teachers can use this tool to break up their lessons, and create presentations that are not as cluttered and don’t have too much information in a short amount of time.  With software such as PowerPoint, teachers are often forced to fragment data, charts, and diagrams, and the connection between them is lost. “Google Docs” and “Google Drive”

Google Docs is used in school environments to help increase teacher efficiency, student engagement, and school wide collaboration. Now Google Docs is referred to as Google Drive because it not only holds documents, but can hold video files, pictures, spread sheets, and upload documents.  You can quickly share documents with any of your contacts, and edit spread sheets with support for text formatting, multiple sheets and sorting. It can also be used for presentations, being that it has full animations and speaker notes. Google Drive is a user friendly collaborative tool that allows you to connect with others, and share your information quickly and easily.  This open source program can be used anywhere that one has internet access.

Google Drive is a useful tool for businesses because instead of spending money on downloading programs such as Microsoft word, they can use Google Drive as a free and efficient way to keep document and files. It is a tool that can be used to keep a business organized, and to share information with different sectors of the business. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on software licenses, they can use Google Drive, which contains a fully featured word processor, spreadsheet and presentation application. The Google Drive service is a great opportunity for small businesses wanting to reduce their startup costs. Also, as the business grows, they can add more features to their Google account, for only 5 dollars a month.  Also, with the use of Google Drive, you no longer need to worry about data storage or backup, being that this is all handled by Google. Lastly, Google Drive is easy to access, and can be used from a computer, smart phone, or tablet.

Socially, Google Drive can be used for collaboration between people. A feature on Google Drive is a chat that allows you to speak to others. While working on a file in Google Drive, you can communicate with others working on the same file, and you can all collaborate on the file in real time. If you and a partner are drafting a document with Google Docs, you can chat about your progress and edit to the document at the same time.

            Google Drive can also be used as a source of entertainment. Although the main use is not for entertainment purposes, one can upload videos and pictures on the site and can share them with others.  Although the site does not have many entertainment sources, it can be used to create presentations, and has full animation.

            Similar to entertainment, Google Drive is not necessarily used for recreational purposes. Although it can be used to store images and videos, it is not used in the same way as a site such as Facebook or Twitter which are used during lesuire time. The main purpose of Gooel Drive is to write and store documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

“Facebook”

Facebook is a social media site that can be used in multiple different ways such as for businesses, news, social networking, recreational, and entertainment. Facebook is a website where you create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages. Facebook is easy to use and can be accessed from the computer, or your phone. It’s a great way to communicate and keep up with today’s society. Users can join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as “People from Work” or “Close Friends”.

Businesses use this social media site to target customers, and to inform people about their products or services. By advertising on Facebook, companies can make online sales, and determine the interests of their customers. From making a campaign on social media sites, a company can better understand what works and what should be changed based on consumer reaction. Another use of Facebook for businesses is not necessarily to make online sales, but to raise brand awareness. By getting more likes on their page, the word then spreads about their company, and attracts more customers. Marketing and advertising on Facebook is a cost effective way to display ones business.

Another use of Facebook is social networking. Many use Facebook to connect with friends and family members, and people all across the world.  A major example of Facebook used for social connections is the role of the social media site in the Tunisian Revolution. Revolutionists used the social media site to connect people, and create an uprising. The Arab Spring was able to “show the world what is possible when you combine social unrest with brave citizenry and powerful digital tools.” Socially, Facebook can also cause some problems such as teenagers who post things that they later regret. Anyone can view your postings, such as colleges, or future employers, this is why you must always be aware of what you post.

Facebook is not only used for connecting people, it can also be used for a form of entertainment.  You can play various different types of games, follow horoscopes, and post videos. Entertainment on Facebook is fun and a way to occupy your time. Some negatives of Facebook entertainment are spending too much of your time on the site, and it consuming your life.  

Facebook is also used to spread news. Both good and bad news is transmitted through Facebook. People can gain updates and learn about the new and trending topics. Facebook is also a great way to rally people, such as its use during presidential campaigns. Being that people tend to be surfing the web more than anything else these days, Facebook is an excellent way to get information out to people. It specifically was used during the Obama campaign.  

Lastly, Facebook can also be used for recreational purposes. By posting pictures, and chatting with friends people can connect with others, and use Facebook as leisure activity. It is a way to fill your time, and learn information you may not have been previously aware of. By scrolling through Facebook, one can gain an insight into the lives of others, and gain a better understanding of their daily life.

“Linkedin”

Linkedin is used to connect businesses and people, and allows them to communicate with one another in order to network themselves. Linkedin’s mission is to “connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful.” From their website, one can access people, job opportunities, news, updates, etc. The site has enabled people to branch out their business, and interact with people who can ultimately help their company to prosper.

Linkedin is an inexpensive way to market your business. It is a powerful marketing and sales tool that is simple to use. Businesses can show off their platform, and gain intelligence on similar companies.  With the use of Linkedin, users can influence purchasing behavior, and convert prospects to customers. The site provides a deeper relationship with customers, creates stronger brand awareness. A key part of Linkedin is communication, and building relationships with other professionals. Various businesses, both large and small, are able to market themselves in a cost efficient way.  

Socailly, Linked in allows business owners to communicate with their customers, and to better understand their likes, and dislikes. Creating a better connection with the customer, allows for better information to be received by the company. Intern, they are able to see what they are doing wrong, and make changes if needed. Hearing customer opinions is a great way to get closer to the buyer, and gain a better understanding of their wants. A downfall to gaining so much feedback is some information may be false, and can throw off stats you are taking about the company. The site also allows businesses to connect with other businesses, which can be helpful for gaining ideas, and gaining a better understanding of useful business operations.

Linkedin is not necessarily used for entertainment; however types of entertainment may be advertised on the sight. The entertainment industry markets their services on the sight. An entertainment company that displays their company on Linkedin is Warner Brothers. On the sight, they have job opportunities, and show which parts of the company are hiring. Similarly, Linkedin is not a recreational sight, but a sight used to market business, and allows people to present themselves in a professional way.

Linkedin is used not necessarily for the traditional sense of the word news, but used for information on different companies and job opportunities. People can use the sight to discover job opportunities, and be notified about different companies, etc.  Many different industries and companies large and small have their businesses displayed on Linkedin, which allows for a wide variety of opportunity.

“Twitter”

Twitter is a social networking site that causes the world to seem like a smaller place, linking different locations, and allowing people to interact with one another through simpler means of communication.  Social networking provides limitless possibilities conveniently located at ones finger tips. Access to a site like twitter can enable networking opportunities never before possible.  Twitter is meant to be “a real-time information network that connects you to the latest stories, ideas, opinions and news about what you find interesting.”  It supplies information in 140 characters or less, issuing small bursts called tweets that give one incite into a topic of interest.

In relation to businesses, Twitter is able to connect business to customers in real time.  Store owners use this social media site to gain feedback from customers, and market their products and services.  Another key marketing use of twitter for businesses is promotions. By offering sales, and coupons on social media sites, businesses can receive a better customer reaction, and expand their target market.  A key aspect of marketing on social media is making sure you engage your audience, and establish strong customer relations.

 Socially, Twitter is used to link people all across the world.  It is a great way to connect with friends and family, and communicate with one another. Also, many use the social networks to follow celebrities, and have a glimpse into their lives. Although twitter is great at connecting people, there are some social downfalls.  In regards to teenagers, they tend to abuse their right to social networking, and never think of the consequences. Once something is posted to a site like Twitter, it can never be taken back. Although it may be deleted, Twitter still has the right to that information, and it is never actually gone.  This is why you must be aware of what you post, and make sure you are not giving away too much information about your life.

Another major use of Twitter is for entertainment. Twitter users post pictures, videos, music, etc. Being so easy to access, it is simple to stream video, and learn new information. From celebrity gossip, to catching up with friends, Twitter is becoming a major source of entertainment.  Ultimately, Twitter is a great source to keep you updated with the latest trends and information.

One can also learn a lot of news and facts from twitter. If one follows certain users such as news 12, you can receive daily updates of information such as weather streamed directly to their phone. News on twitter can also be a negative thing because false information can spread rapidly. An example of News on twitter is the New York Times. The New York Times posts information on twitter and also advertises its business. Also, Twitter can be used to keep up with politics, and has even been used for political campaigns.  

Lastly, Twitter can also be used for recreational purposes. You can follow all sorts of celebrities and just browse their page. Twitter enables you to follow anyone you desire and just read their posts. If you are a big sports team, and want to follow a team such as the New York Giants, you can be informed with information about their team, players and the latest updates.

Potentially, Twitter may be abused for multiple reasons. People can do things on twitter that they will regret, and can’t take back. When you post things on twitter be aware of what you post because everything can be traced back to you. Always be cautious of who you follow on twitter because people can be deceptive and pretend to be someone they are not.
